Our trip to Ostend, Belgium 23rd to 27th August 2010

We had a fantastic trip over in Belgium and although Brian was feeling very tired all the time we did get out and about a little bit.  On the Wednesday I went into Brugge with our friend Margaret and her and I had a fantastic time walking round and stopping wherever we wanted to.  Had a coffee and cake in a cafe we had used last year when my granddaughter Claire was with me as Brian had had another heart attack and could not get the insurance.
Brian did some walking around whilst we were in Brugge and seemed to do too much as he was very tired when Margaret and I got back to the hotel.  On the Thursday evening we packed everything up as the coach was leaving after Breakfast on the Friday (27th) to get us home to Wales.
Just before midnight Brian woke me up to say he had pains in his chest.  He took his spray and settled down again but half an hour later he was up once more.  Once again he took his spray and settled down.  Then at 1 a.m. he woke me again to say he needed a doctor/ambulance.  I dashed down to the reception and asked for a doctor to be called.  When he came he said Brian needed an ambulance and off we went.  Luckily Belgium is a very friendly country and most people speak some English.  (If we had been in Germany or especially France they would not have helped us much at all.)
He was admitted to the hospital and I went back to the hotel about 4.30 a.m.    When I came down before breakfast I found Margaret and told her what had happened.  She went to tell the driver who kindly helped me contact the insurance company etc.  He said that he would take both our suitcases back to Wales for us and so I quickly pulled out some underwear and a couple of tops for me to wear and bits for Brian.   It was heartbreaking when the coach went and I stood there waving them off and crying my eyes out.  I felt so scared.
Almost everyone on the coach offered me money to help me out but luckily we did have some.  I had to book the hotel room for the next 8 nights and then the last two nights the insurance company paid as I told them I was out of money.
I then spent 10 days dashing back and forward to the hospital as well as trying to sort out his insurance details.  Finally they arranged for a fantastic female doctor called Elaine to come out on Sunday 5th and brought us all back by plane on the 6th September.   An ambulance drove us to Brussells and then we flew to Heathrow, Lond airport and then up to Manchester airport.  We were met by another ambulance which took us to Boddelwyddan Hospital which is our local one.  Brian was admitted and stayed from the Monday afternoon until Thursdy afternoon.  He is now back home and seems back to his normal self!!!!!!!!
